Exploring Velvet
This summer school will cover all of Angie’s velvet techniques. You will learn how to colour velvet with dyes and inks, discharge to create pattern, add a shimmering surface with foils and glitters and experiment with whip stitches, cording and vermicelli to name but a few machine embroidery stitches. Machine Embroidery for Beginners
Angie's beginners' classes can help rusty stitchers as well as newcomers to the art. Learn about your mysterious sewing machine and it’s gadgets, have a go at free machine embroidery, unravel the baffling array of needles, threads and other bits and bobs you need to get started.

Textural Bookwraps
As seen in Angie's article in Quilting Arts magazine. Experiment with forma-a-foam prints, woven surfaces, strips and stitch programs. Great fun if you have 180 stitches on your machine, though don’t worry if you don’t zig-zags and straight stitches can be just as effective. Wrapped cords and dangly bits to finish off, good fun for all abilities.

This workshop teaches you how to use transfoils, sweetie foils and silks to decorate the surface of black cotton velvet, then top off with organza and machine embroidery all inspired by the patterns and colour of painter Hundertwasser.

Indian Block Printing with a Difference
Try using forma-foam to impress into Indian textiles, over print with Indian wood blocks and experiment with vibrant fluorescent coloured acrylics onto hand dyed cotton fabrics. The result is a shimmering feast for the eyes!! Materials cost extra.

Illuminated Icons
You need to collect as many aluminium sweetie foils as you can, then all you need is an image a small piece of black cotton velvet and some bondaweb, oh yes and you need a sewing machine to embellish. Come and have a go, they are good fun to make.

Shimmering Landscapes
Back to black cotton velvet again, Angie has developed this workshop to show you how to use transfoils with bondaweb, Mistyfuse, Fuse FX, Hotspots and Supermend. Taking simple land or seascapes as a theme Angie will show you how to use these glues to make a twinkling surface for stitch.

If you don’t know by now….Angie Hughes is inspired by Klimt! Check her website to find this out. His shapes and pattern are easy to draw upon for a one day workshop. Again this is a velvet workshop using foils, organza and stitch, the results are pleasing and more often than not students have a frame able piece at the end of the day.

Angie is currently developing ideas for a new book she is working on with Jeanette McCulloch about thermofax screen printing and stamping, so they have got together to present a workshop combining the two techniques. If want a sneaky preview come along to discover old and new ideas with stitch and paint, but be prepared you will be guinea pigs!!! All the best Eureka moments happen on these workshops. Fee includes inks but you will need fabric.
